Explore the charming hutongs ( narrow lanes ), old courtyards, lakes and temples of old part of Beijing. Pedal through this historic area to get around in the old city area - Shichahai area. Shichahai area is a centraly preserved zone showcasing the life of old Beijing. It is comprised of three-lake area: Qian Hai Lake, meaning Front Sea; Hou Hai Lake, meaning Back Sea and Xi Hai Lake, meaning Western Sea. Lots of bars are clustered in the Shichahai area or along the Shichahai Lakeshore.
Today start with the visit to the Shichahai Area. Take a pedicab, a modern version of the rickshaw and navigates the mazelike ancient lanes and alleyways known as hutongs which create a multitude of small neighborhoods. Visit the Prince Gong Mansion, an intact 1,000-room residence from the Qing Dynasty.
After Chinese lunch, climb the Bell Tower, the city's timekeeper for over six centuries. Up the Bell Tower, you can have an outstanding bird's-eye view of Beijing, especially the old part of Beijing. Then head to the Lama Temple. Lama Temple is one of the biggest and most important Tibetan Buddhist temples in China. It was once a royal palace in Qing Dynasty. Now the temple is the home for Tibetan monks and houses ornate and colorful buildings.
