"Not been on the Great Wall, not a great man."—Chinese proverb. Today you will explore the most ruined, precipitous, original, preserved section of the Great Wall in Beijing - Simatai Great Wall. Simatai Great Wall is divided into two sections - East section and west section. Many people like to hike the east section since it is steeper and more challenging. of course, up on the top, you will have a better commanding view of the landscape. There are 16 watch towers on the east section. But you are only legally allowed to hike 12 watch towers. The furthest four watch towers are treacherous, and too risky for climbing.
If you don't have strong legs, you may take the cable car up or down. But we suggest you hike up and take the cable car down. It is not a good idea to take a cable car up and hike down the Great Wall! Walking down the steep Great Wall may harm your legs if you don't have strong legs. On your hike up, one or two local farmers, or you may call them hawkers will follow you. Don't get frustrated! They make a living by selling one tourist book or one bottle of mineral water. Sometimes they prove quite helpful.

It has been listed by the UNESCO as one of the World Cultural Heritages.
